Office 365: Turn off Mailbox Archiving
You can disable an Office 365 mailbox archive, but be aware that disabling the archive does not move the mail stored in it back to the primary mailbox. Instead, if that archive is not re-enabled within 30 days its contents will be deleted.
To disable the archive for a mailbox:
- Log in at http://portal.office.com/
- Go to Admin > Admin centres > Security & Compliance.
- Go to Data governance > Archive.
- Select the mailbox that you want to enable the archive for and click Disable.
- A warning pops up saying that you'll have 30 days to re-enable the archive mailbox, and that after 30 days, all information in the archive will be permanently deleted. Click Yes.
- You can click the refresh icon to update the details pane and keep an eye on the archiving process.
